Ar\u015fimet kitab\u0131n\u0131n a\u00e7\u0131klama b\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fcne \u015funlar\u0131 yazm\u0131\u015ft\u0131:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHen\u00fcz ke\u015ffetti\u011fimiz teoremleri bulmak i\u00e7in g\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fcz nesillerinin yan\u0131s\u0131ra gelecek nesillerin de (The Method) Y\u00f6ntem&#8217;i kullanabileceklerini d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcyorum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ve b\u00f6ylece The Method&#8217;\u0131 okuyan yirminci y\u00fczy\u0131l matematik\u00e7ileri, Archimedes&#8217;in zaman\u0131n\u0131n ne kadar ilerisinde oldu\u011funu ve problemleri \u00e7\u00f6zmek i\u00e7in kulland\u0131\u011f\u0131 teknikleri \u00f6\u011frendiler. Ar\u015fimet dizileri toplam\u0131\u015f ve ke\u015fiflerini fizikte kulland\u0131 &#8211; kald\u0131ra\u00e7 yasas\u0131 ve yer\u00e7ekimi merkezlerini nas\u0131l bulaca\u011f\u0131n\u0131 ortaya koydu &#8211; saf matematikte yeni teoremleri ke\u015ffetti ve integral kalk\u00fcl\u00fcs\u00fcne \u00e7ok yak\u0131n sonsuz k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck de\u011ferleri kulland\u0131. 1,800 y\u0131l boyunca herkesin kullanabilece\u011fi form\u00fcller ve y\u00f6ntemler ortaya koydu.<\/p>\n<p>Ar\u015fimet, bir k\u00fcrenin hacmini hesaplayan form\u00fcl\u00fcn\u00fcn en b\u00fcy\u00fck ki\u015fisel ba\u015far\u0131s\u0131 oldu\u011funa inan\u0131yordu. \u00c7al\u0131\u015fmas\u0131 modern matematik ile benzerli\u011finden dolay\u0131 olduk\u00e7a dikkat \u00e7ekicidir.<\/p>\n<h3>Eureka ve Alt\u0131n Ta\u00e7 Hikayesi<\/h3>\n<p>Kral II. Hiero, kendisine ta\u00e7 yapmas\u0131 i\u00e7in bir zanattkara saf alt\u0131n vermi\u015fti. Ta\u00e7 yap\u0131l\u0131p krala geri getirirldi\u011finde zanattkara verilen alt\u0131n ile ayn\u0131 a\u011f\u0131rl\u0131\u011fa sahipti, ancak yine de Kral Hiero ku\u015fkuluydu. Zanaatk\u00e2r\u0131n alt\u0131n\u0131n belli bir k\u0131sm\u0131n\u0131 \u00e7ald\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 ve tac\u0131 alt\u0131nla g\u00fcm\u00fc\u015f\u00fc kar\u0131\u015ft\u0131rarak yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcyordu. Emin olamad\u0131, o y\u00fczden tac\u0131 Ar\u015fimet&#8217;e g\u00f6nderdi ve \u015f\u00fcphelerini ona a\u00e7\u0131klad\u0131.<\/p>\n<p>Alt\u0131n\u0131n g\u00fcm\u00fc\u015ften daha yo\u011fun oldu\u011fu biliniyordu, bu y\u00fczden bir santimetre k\u00fcp alt\u0131n, bir santimetrelik k\u00fcp g\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fden daha a\u011f\u0131r olacakt\u0131.<\/p>\n<p>Sorun \u015fu ki, ta\u00e7 d\u00fczensiz \u015fekilliydi, bu y\u00fczden a\u011f\u0131rl\u0131\u011f\u0131 bilinmesine ra\u011fmen, hacmini belirlemek neredeyse imkans\u0131zd\u0131.<\/p>\n<p>Ar\u015fimet, bir yandan banyo yaparken bir yandan da Kral Hiero\u2019nun problemini nas\u0131l \u00e7\u00f6zebilece\u011fini d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcyordu.
